Indianapolis Fire and Burn Injury Lawyers Discuss Fourth of July Safety

July 01, 2015

What would a celebration of our nation’s independence be without a fireworks display? But while fireworks can be extremely fun to watch, the Indianapolis fire and burn injury lawyers at Stewart & Stewart Attorneys would like to remind you that they are also responsible for a large number of injuries each year.

The National Fire Protection Association says that in 2013, an estimated 11,400 Americans required hospitalization due to injuries involving fireworks. A large number of these individuals had suffered fire or burn injuries.

So what can you do to keep you and your loved ones safe from the risks fireworks pose? The best solution is to leave them to professionals. An article from FOX 59 News gives you details on some of the best places to catch a fireworks display in the greater Indianapolis area.

If you insist on setting off fireworks yourself, there are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Supervise Children– Never allow children to handle or light fireworks, even sparklers. Adults should also always have others on hand when lighting fireworks so help is available in the event of an accident.
  • Be Prepared– Choose an open and fire hazard-free location to light your display. Also have water and a fire extinguisher on hand to put out any fires that may occur.
  • Avoid Consuming Alcohol– If you plan to light fireworks, be sure not to consume alcohol. It can impair your judgment and increase the chances of an accident.

At Stewart & Stewart Attorneys, our Indianapolis personal injury lawyers hope these tips help to keep you and your family safe during the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

Limited Time Left to Return Safe and Sober Vouchers

January 28, 2015

Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle fatalities in Indiana each year. In fact, Mothers Against Drunk Driving reports there were 198 deaths attributed to drunk driving in 2014. These fatalities accounted for more than one-fourth of all traffic deaths.

These numbers may leave you wondering what’s being done to prevent Indiana drunk driving accidents. Experts say the state has approved legislation that requires repeat drunken driving offenders to have ignition interlock systems installed on their vehicles. Judges can now also order first time offenders to have the equipment installed as well. This isn’t the only action being taken to combat Indiana car accidents caused by drunk driving though. At Stewart & Stewart Attorneys, we are once again sponsoring our Safe and Sober Ride Home program.

On New Year’s Eve, we offered free cab rides home to people celebrating in Indianapolis. To participate, individuals were asked to print and sign cab voucher and save the receipt from their rides. They were then instructed to send us the receipt to get a voucher for the cost of the ride.

We have been collecting receipts throughout January, and we will be accepting them until this Friday, Jan. 30.

If you printed our Safe and Sober voucher before going out on New Year’s Eve, our Indianapolis personal injury lawyers would like to applaud you for making the right decision to get home safe.

Get a Safe and Sober Ride Home This New Year’s Eve

December 31, 2014

Tonight is New Year’s Eve and many people in Indiana will be celebrating. What partygoers need to remember is that drinking and driving is especially prevalent during this holiday. However, we can each do our part to keep the streets and highways safe.

Stewart & Stewart Attorneys is helping to keep drunk drivers off the road this year by sponsoring our New Year’s Eve Safe and Sober Ride Home program. We began this program years ago and have serviced thousands in our area with safe, free rides home after celebrations end.

To participate, call a cab of your choosing to get home safely. Then, save your receipt and download and complete a voucher form before New Year’s Day. Finally, send in your receipt and voucher to our office in Carmel by the end of January and we will send you a $20 rebate for your ride. For a full explanation of the rules and terms of the program, click here.

Rebates will only be given for rides home and not to other bars, restaurants, or drinking locations. Several occupants can share cabs as well.

At Stewart & Stewart Attorneys, we understand the devastating results drunk driving can have. That’s why our team of Indiana personal injury lawyers is hopeful you’ll choose a safe way to get home and participate in the Safe and Sober program.

Charity of the Month: Wheeler Mission Ministries

November 05, 2014

Indianapolis can be a fantastic place to work and live. But like many metropolitan areas, homelessness is a problem the city faces. Estimates show there are currently almost 6,000 individuals living in the city without roofs over their heads.

Luckily, organizations are working to eradicate homelessness from Indianapolis, including Wheeler Mission Ministries. The organization was founded in 1893 under the name of Door of Hope. Since that time, the group has undergone many changes that have led to the ability to serve more needy individuals.

Since Wheeler Mission Ministries is a non-profit organization, they depend on donations from the public to continue helping the homeless in our area. That’s why the Indianapolis personal injury lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys are doing our part to help this wonderful organization by naming them as our Charity of the Month.

Throughout November, for every new “Like” we receive on our Facebook page, we will donate $1 to Wheeler Mission Ministries. If you’d like to get involved in another way, the organization is always looking for volunteers to help with their events and campaigns. To sign up, simply visit their website.

At Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin, we recognize the importance of giving back to the communities we serve and hope you’ll help Wheeler Mission Ministries continue their mission of helping others.

October 01, 2014

Luckily there are organizations that aim to help these veterans, and the Indianapolis personal injury lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys would like to tell you about how you can support one such program.

The Wounded Warrior Project was founded on the idea of fostering one of the most successful, well-adjusted generations of wounded service members our nation has ever seen. They aim to accomplish this goal by:

  • Raising awareness of the needs of wounded service members.
  • Helping injured veterans aid and assist one another.
  • Providing beneficial programs to injured service members.

Demand for participation in the Wounded Warrior Project’s programs has swelled in recent years, leaving the organization in desperate need of volunteers for their events. You can also raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project during other events by becoming a community athlete. Once you have raised $500 for the organization, you can proudly wear the organization’s logo on a jersey as you compete.

You can also help the Wounded Warrior Project by simply clicking a button with your mouse. Charity of the Month: Art With a Heart

September 03, 2014

Arts education programs in our nation’s schools are facing drastic budget cuts. In fact, only an estimated $250 million per year is allocated to support the arts in schools. In spite of a lack of funding, these classes have shown to increase academic achievement in students by as much as four times, and students who take courses in the arts are three times less likely to miss school.

To help provide much needed funds to arts programs in our city, the Indianapolis personal injury lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys are working to raise money is support of art classes in area schools as part of our charity of the month program.

Art With A Heart was founded in 2002 to supply at-risk youth with a chance to experience the visual arts. Since that time the program has grown to serve more than 2,000 students at as many as 25 different locations throughout the greater Indianapolis area.

You can do your part to support this wonderful organization by simply clicking a button. For each new and unique “Like” our Facebook page receives throughout the month of September, we will donate $1 to Art with a Heart.

Charity of the Month: Big Brothers Big Sisters

August 20, 2014

There are many young people in the United States in need of adult guidance and support. Luckily, there are charities like Big Brothers Big Sisters that can provide young people with role models to help them navigate difficult times.

For decades, Big Brothers Big Sisters, a non-profit organization, has been matching outstanding adults from the community with children between the ages of 8 and 18 who need mentors. The pairs are then able to spend quality time together doing homework, playing sports, and visiting educational facilities. This can effectively give young participants the guidance they need to make positive decisions in their lives.

In fact, almost 70 percent of little brothers and sisters who attend college say their participation in the program had a direct impact on their decision to continue their education.

At Stewart & Stewart Attorneys, we strongly believe in the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters. That’s why we named the organization as our charity of the month. This means that throughout the month of August, we will donate $1 to the organization for each unique “Like” our Facebook page receives.

Our Indianapolis personal injury lawyers encourage you to do your part to support this wonderful organization with one click. Just a moment of your time can do so much to help our community. Thank you!

Charity of the Month: Gleaners

July 09, 2014

Hunger is a very real epidemic the United States is facing today, especially in Indiana. Data from the organization Feeding America shows 16.3 percent of the state’s residents may not have enough access to proper nutrition, with one-third of those individuals being children.

Luckily, groups like Gleaners are here to help combat the problem of hunger in Indiana. They work to secure, store, and redistribute food items to needy individuals across the state of Indiana. The organization was founded in 1980 in a home garage and has since grown to serve countless Hoosiers during that time.

The Indiana personal injury lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys are hoping to help Gleaners achieve their goals by naming them as our charity of the month. This means that for every new “Like” our Facebook page receives during the month of July, we will donate $1 to Gleaners’ cause.

If you wish to do more to help, Gleaners accepts both food and monetary donations. You can also get in touch with the organization to schedule a time to volunteer your time as a way to help them achieve their mission.

At Stewart & Stewart, we take great pride in giving back to the communities we serve and encourage you to stay up to date on our philanthropic endeavors by taking a look at our social media outlets, as well as the Community News page of our website.
