Distracted driving is becoming one of the leading causes of motor vehicle collisions in Indiana. The Indianapolis Car Accident Lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys explain that the behavior may have been responsible for a recent crash that left a 26-year-old cyclist injured.
According to an article released by WLFI 18 News, the incident occurred at around 7:20 p.m. on Monday along River Road in Tippecanoe County. Reports indicate that the cyclist was traveling along the road when a vehicle backing out of a residential driveway struck him.
The impact caused the cyclist thrown from his bike and he was transported to a local hospital in Lafayette for further examination. Investigators later determined through interviews that the driver was distracted by his son in the back seat of the vehicle.
The incident leaves many motorists curious as to what they can do to help prevent distracted driving accidents.
Stewart & Stewart Attorneys’ team of Indianapolis Personal Injury Lawyers says that the only way to end distracted driving is to ensure that motorists are focused on the road. Drivers turning their phones off while at the wheel of a vehicle can achieve this goal. Motorists should also never eat or drink while driving, and should eliminate loud noises before taking to the road.
