An article released by RTV 6 News explained how a Chevrolet Equinox was traveling along U.S. 35 just west of Blountsville when it hydroplaned due to heavy rain in the area, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered across the median and into the path of a Kia Spectra carrying two passengers.
The two vehicles collided and the impact of the crash caused the two occupants in the Kia to suffer fatal injuries. The driver and passengers in the Equinox each suffered injuries as well and were rushed to a local trauma center for further examination and treatment.
The Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate what contributing factors may have played a part in the crash.
The incident highlights the importance of slowing down in inclement weather and ensuring vehicle equipment is properly maintained to perform in bad weather.
