Taxotere

Taxotere is a drug meant for use in chemotherapy to prevent cancer cells from growing or dividing. Patients who receive Taxotere will undergo an hour-long infusion every three to four weeks to ensure the drug is working properly.

Those with lung cancer, head or neck cancer, stomach cancer and prostate cancer all use Taxotere in their chemo treatments. The most popular form of cancer used with Taxotere, though, is breast cancer.

What are the side effects?

Just like any chemotherapy drug, the effects of Taxotere are long. Patients often experience fatigue, nausea, muscle and joint pain, numbness in extremities and low blood cell counts. Again, similar to other chemo drugs, patients will also see a potential for hair loss as a side effect of the drug.

Luckily for most, after chemotherapy is complete, the hair will begin to grow back. That’s where the Taxotere lawsuit comes in. Patients who took this drug ended up suffering from permanent hair loss, a side effect that could have been entirely avoided if a different chemo drug was taken. Because this drug is offered to mostly breast cancer patients, it is often women who suffer from this life-long loss and the results are often traumatizing.

What Can I Do?

If you or a loved one received Taxotere, you could be compensated. Many lawsuits have proven that the manufacture of the drug, Sanofi-Aventis, knew the risk of permanent hair loss and concealed that risk to physicians who were then unable to inform their patients before prescribing the drug. Because there are other just as effective, if not more effective, chemotherapy drugs on the market, it’s important that a patient know all the risks involved with each drug and be given a choice as to which one they want to use.

What’s even more troubling is that cancer patients outside of the United States knew of this risk as far back as 2005, but patients here in the states were left unaware of the permanent side effect of taking Taxotere.

Our attorneys are well-versed in the Taxotere lawsuit and are here to fight for you and your family to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve. Hair loss causes emotional pain and when the effects are lifelong, it can be traumatizing for anybody. Contact us today to get the legal help you need to fight the Taxotere manufactures.
