Employees in the steel industry risk injury and death every time they go to work. The Indiana Workers Compensation Lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys explain that one of the most common causes of such accidents is a worker coming into contact with objects or equipment at the work site. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that more than 15 percent of all workplace fatalities last year were the result of contact with objects on worksites.
Recently, a worker was killed and two others were injured last week in an accident at the ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor West Steel Mill in East Chicago, Indiana. According to a story from the Northwest Indiana Times, the incident happened on the morning of Nov. 13 at the facility’s No. 3 production shop.
The workers were performing their job duties when a shield plate from the basic oxygen furnace fell on top of them.
A 39-year-old man was killed in the accident, and two others were swiftly transported to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition.
Stewart & Stewart Attorneys have a team of Indiana Personal Injury Lawyers who recognize the emotional and financial trauma caused by work-related accidents. That is why the firm would like to send their sympathies to the family of the man who died. They also wish the two workers who were injured a full and speedy recovery from their injuries.
