Indianapolis Burn Injury Lawyers Discuss Chemical Burn Risks

Apr 2, 2014 | Fire and Burn Injury

Perhaps the most damaging and difficult burn injuries to treat are those caused by chemicals. A chemical tank explosion at an Indianapolis factory left a total of nine workers seriously injured last week, highlighting the dangers that Chemical Burn Injuries can pose.

Reports from the New York Daily News indicate the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Rolls-Royce Plant 5. Officials explain the team of workers was filling a large tank with nitric acid when a buildup of toxic gases caused the tank to blow. Each of the injured workers was transported to a local trauma center for injuries caused by inhaling the gas and exposure to acids.

The incident leaves many wondering what they can do to protect themselves and their loved ones from the risks of suffering a chemical burn. The Indianapolis Personal Injury Lawyers with Stewart & Stewart Attorneys explain there are several actions that can be taken, including:

  • Keeping Volatile Chemicals Locked Away- Cleaners, solutions, and other dangerous chemicals should be stored out of the reach of small children and animals.
  • Following Directions- Using too much of a chemical or mixing chemicals can cause increased risk of injury.
  • Using Safety Equipment- When handling chemicals that can cause burns, an individual should always wear eye and skin protection.
