Employees face the risk of being injured in on-the-job accidents every day they go to work. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that these accidents were responsible for roughly 15 percent of all workplace fatalities last year.
Recently, a 30-year-old worker lost his life as the result of being struck by a forklift at a local recycling center. An article published by The Indy Star stated the incident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 11 at a facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Reports indicate the victim was operating the forklift to move a screen used in the recycling of electronics. While moving the screen, the worker exited the forklift and attempted to move the screen by hand. However, when he did this, the piece of equipment began to move and pinned the worker between the machine and a guardrail.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, but died shortly after arrival.
