A 27-year-old Cromwell, Indiana, woman died Monday in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 13, between Syracuse and North Webster.
According to The South Bend Tribune, the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m., just south of Wawasee Middle School after a flagman for the Indiana Department of Transportation stopped the victim.
A witness in front of the victim’s minivan said the flagman had turned his sign from “Stop” to “Slow,” and the victim had just begun to move forward when she was hit in the rear by a Kenworth dump truck driven by a 56-year-old man from Goshen.
The impact forced the minivan into the vehicle in front of it, and then off the road and into a high voltage utility pole, killing the driver.
The driver of the dump truck was not harmed. Kosciusko County authorities say they’re awaiting the results of a blood test on the dump truck driver. In the meantime, the crash is still under investigation.
